Bellevue — Gandhi Statue Comes to Bellevue

Mahatma Gandhi has come to Bellevue.

A statue of the revered “Apostle of Peace” who led India to independence was placed at the Bellevue Regional Library downtown, with a dedication on Saturday, Oct. 17 that drew hundreds despite rain. The 24th annual awards recognized excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local governments throughout the United States and Canada. Burien – City’s Diversity Efforts Recognized

The City of Burien in June was presented a Civic Leadership Achievement Award by the U.S. Mexico Chamber of Commerce Pacific Northwest Chapter Board President Luis Navarro in appreciation of the City’s efforts to support diversity. Specifically recognized was the translation of the City’s newsletter into Spanish for Burien’s Latino residents. Burien – City Launches Low-Watt Radio Station

The City of Burien now has its own radio station. The low-frequency station can be heard primarily in the Burien area on station 540 AM and will be used primarily to broadcast emergency information in the event of a disaster. The station currently broadcasts recorded information on City events and programs, and City-related public service announcements. Some messages are also broadcast in Spanish. Reception is best outdoors or in a vehicle. Set your radio dial to 540 AM.
